It’s a phrase that is frequently heard in Spain. It translates to ‘My house is your house’ and is a great indication of the famous Spanish hospitality. Spanish people are genuinely welcoming, cheerful, generous and lively people. It is not uncommon for a Spanish person to go out of their way to help a lost foreigner, or include them in an activity, as it is important to them that visitors leave their country with a good impression!
This behaviour stems from one common national trait – pride. Being so comfortable welcoming foreigners to your country, (and to your house), suggests the Spaniards have something special about their culture, which makes them proud. Could it be the magnificent Mediterranean climate so dissimilar to other European countries? Perhaps it’s the delectable cuisine, which varies greatly from region to region, but includes the finest jamon, fish and saffron paella, and addictively sweet churros for dessert.
Their fierce pride is also apparent in the national dance, flamenco, where men and women don vibrant costumes and audibly stamp their feet in time to the music.
By living in Spain, we are sure you will also develop a great sense of pride for the gregarious people and their flamboyant culture.
